SIGNS THAT IT IS TIME FOR AN OPTOMETRIST VISIT

Eye Pain

Infrequent and mild eye pain is typically no reason to panic, but if you experience pain in your eyes that is either intense or ongoing you should make an appointment with your optomerist. Pain can sometimes indicate that your eye is infected, or be a warning sign for a more serious health problem.

Foreign Object

If you get anything in your eyes such as grit, dirt, chemicals, or a large object you should seek immediate medical attention. For chemicals or small bits of debris, you should flush your eyes out with cool, clear water for at least fifteen minutes and then visit your eye doctor immediately for comprehensive eye exam.

Eye Infection

If your eyes are swollen, itchy, or red, or the whites of your eyes are discoloured pink you may have an eye infection. Infected eyes may also have discharge. If you experience any of these, you should book an eye exam right away.

Frequent Headaches

Frequent headaches are usually rooted to vision problems. Frequent headaches may indicate that your vision has changed or that your eyes are strained. Make an appointment with your Optometrist. They will be able to help you determine the source of your headaches.

Problems with Near or Distant Vision

If you are finding yourself squinting to read road signs or have to hold your book farther away to make out the tiny prints, you should make an appointment with your eye doctor.

Halos

If you are seeing halos around lights, particularly during the middle of the day, it may indicate that you have astigmatism or presbyopia. However, it may also indicate that something much more serious is going on, so you should make an appointment with your optometrist as soon as possible.

Dry or Itchy Eyes

You’re more likely to experience dry, itchy eyes during winter, due to the dry air. Dry, itchy eyes are also common during allergy season when there are more allergens present in the air.

In most cases, treatment of eye dryness and itch is fairly simple and straightforward. Eyes tend to recover quickly within a few days of starting treatment.

If you have persistent dryness and itch or you experience additional symptoms, see your eye doctor for diagnosis and treatment options.

Sudden Blurry Vision or Problems Focusing

Sudden blurry vision or problems focusing may be a sign of a larger health issue, see your eye doctor for comprehensive eye examination and proper treatment immediately.
