The eyes often will become red and itchy if you have allergies. Allergies can be seasonal or due to contact lens solutions. They can also be year-round and due to mold, make up, or animal dander. The causes of allergies are many and varying.
The great news is that your eye doctor has many eye drops available that can offer you relief. We will first evaluate your eyes to determine if they have”allergic conjunctivitis.” If this is the case, we will recommend various at-home therapies, as well as prescribe one of the newer, effective anti-allergy medications. We can also recommend over-the-counter medications, if you prefer.
Did you know that rubbing your eyes is not good for your eyes? This can actually worsen the itching and cause more long term problems. Please avoid this and see your eye doctor for relief from these symptoms.
If you are having a specific concern about your eyes, please schedule a visit with us soon. We also recommend annual comprehensive eye examinations for all ages. Because some eye diseases don’t have warning signs, sometimes your eye doctor will actually detect a problem long before you would know something is wrong. As you can imagine, preventative care goes a long way. Many ocular diseases can be treated and/or controlled much more effectively when caught early.
